Adopt a Crèche

There are eight preschools in Sweetwaters/Mpumuza that we hope to be helping by the end of 2009. At the moment we are working in four of them and intend to have started a new pre-school by 2010.

How does the Adopt-a-Crèche Project fit into this?

The “Adopt-a-crèche Project” is the work that iThemba has embarked upon in an attempt to assist with the upgrade, resourcing and beautification of the nine ECD centres in the target area in which iThemba Projects is involved.
This project will attempt to improve the physical buildings, and material resources of the ECD centres, as well as provide food to the centres. This food helps to ensure that all children in these centres receive at least one meal a day.

So far three crèches have been fully adopted by a team of five sponsors:

Mbubu Crèche
St Raphaels Crèche
Sbukuseswe Crèche

We are still looking for support for five Crèches:

Kwanomusa Crèche
Tula Crèche
Nkululeko Crèche
Khulakahle Crèche
Olga Crèche

How you can get involved:

Local Persons/Families can assist in this programme in the following ways:

A financial commitment only

A visit to the school once in the year
A minimum monthly contribution of R100 to the general account of “Adopt-a-crèche” (arranged as a debit order) for the year of 2009. Downloadable Debit Order Form.
Receiving the general iThemba Projects Newsletter once a quarter.
Attending a bi-annual “Adopt-a-crèche” tea where you will receive a Project Progress Report.

A hands-on commitment

A minimum monthly contribution of R100 - to be used for food, and the administration thereof, for the particular school you have adopted, for the year of 2009. Downloadable Debit Order Form.
Becoming a member of a team of 5 ladies who will work together to attempt to improve the physical buildings, and material resources of the ECD centre, as well as provide food to the centre.
Visit the ECD centre once a month to deliver the food – food to be collected from Hilton Baptist Church.
Receiving the general iThemba Projects Newsletter once a quarter.
Attending a bi-annual “Adopt-a-crèche” tea where you will receive a Project Progress Report.

International Persons can can assist in this programme in the following way:

A financial commitment only

A minimum monthly contribution of R100/£10/$15 to the general account of “Adopt-a-Crèche” for the year of 2009. The most cost effective approach for this is a once off donation that covers the whole year (R1200/£120/$180).
Receiving the iThemba Projects Education Newsletter once a quarter.
Receiving a bi-annual Project Progress Report.
